monday.com vs Smartsheet for spreadsheet-power users: Which is better?
Our team is very comfortable in Excel/Sheets but needs better project tracking. We're evaluating monday.com vs Smartsheet. We love formulas, pivot tables, and grid views. Which is better for spreadsheet-power users? Can monday.com match Smartsheet's formula capabilities?

Smartsheet wins on formulas - it's basically Excel in the cloud. monday.com's formulas are more limited (no VLOOKUP, limited nested logic). If your work is heavily formula-based, Smartsheet is better. monday.com wins on: visual project views (Gantt, Kanban), automations, and ease of use. We use both: Smartsheet for complex calculations, monday.com for task management. The integration between them is solid.
Former Smartsheet user here - migrated to monday.com and never looked back. Yes, formulas are less powerful but the trade-off is worth it for better visualization and team adoption. Use monday.com's 'Formula' column for basic calculations and push complex stuff to integrated spreadsheets.
