monday.com vs Basecamp: Which project management tool is better for remote teams in 2026?
Our remote team of 15 is evaluating project management tools. We've been on Basecamp for 3 years but considering monday.com for better visual project tracking. What are the real pros and cons of switching? Specifically interested in: 1) Task management flexibility, 2) File organization, 3) Mobile experience, 4) Pricing for our team size. Has anyone made this switch recently?

We migrated from Basecamp to monday.com 6 months ago. Here's my honest take: monday.com wins on visual project tracking and flexibility, but Basecamp is simpler. The main reason we switched was monday.com's automations - we automated 60% of our status update meetings. Task management is way more customizable with custom columns and dependencies. However, Basecamp's file organization (Campfires) is more intuitive. For remote teams specifically, monday.com's Activity Log and notifications are superior. We saved about $2,400/year switching to Standard plan with better features.
I disagree with the above - Basecamp's simplicity is actually a feature, not a bug. My team of 8 tried monday.com and found it overwhelming. The learning curve was 3 weeks vs Basecamp's 2 days. If your team is non-technical, stick with Basecamp. Also, Basecamp includes file storage and email forwarding in the flat $99/month price - no per-user costs.
We use both. Basecamp for client communication (Campfire is great for this) and monday.com for internal project tracking. The integration between them is manual but works. Would not recommend using both long-term though - creates data silos.
