We need to implement time tracking in monday.com for billing clients and understanding team capacity. The native time tracking seems basic. How do you set it up to get accurate billable hours? Can you generate reports by client and project?

The native time tracking works if configured properly. Setup: 1) Add 'Time Tracking' column to all task boards. 2) Create a 'Time Settings' board with hourly rates by team member and by client (different rates for different clients). 3) Use the 'Formula' column to calculate billable amounts: [Hours] × [Rate]. 4) For reporting, create a dashboard with widgets grouped by Client and by Project. The key to accuracy: require time entries before allowing status changes to 'Complete'. Set up an automation: 'When status changes to Done → Check if Time Tracking has entry → If no, notify user to log time'. For export, use the 'Export to Excel' feature with time data for invoicing.

One limitation: the native time tracking doesn't support multiple time entries per day on one item. Workaround: use subitems for different time entries on complex tasks. Also, the time reports in monday are basic - for detailed billing reports, export to a tool like Float or Harvest. We use Zapier to push monday time entries to Xero for invoicing.
