How to track project milestones and key dates in monday.com
We need to track project milestones (kickoff, design complete, launch, etc.) in a way that's visible to leadership. Status labels are too granular. How do you track milestones in monday.com?

Use the Milestones feature in monday.com. In any board with a Timeline column, you can mark specific items as milestones (click the diamond icon). This gives you a clear visual marker on the Gantt/Timeline view. For executive visibility, create a separate 'Milestone Tracker' board with items representing each project milestone. Use the Connect Boards column to link to your project boards, then add a Formula column to pull the actual date. This gives leadership a single view of all key dates across projects.
We use a combination of the Timeline column with milestone markers and the Dashboard Timeline widget. The widget shows all milestones across boards in a single timeline view. Set up notifications to alert stakeholders 1 week and 1 day before milestones. This has dramatically improved our stakeholder communication.
For client-facing milestone tracking, we use the monday.com Portal feature. Each client gets a filtered view showing only their project milestones and key deliverables. They can see progress without seeing internal task details. Combined with automated status update emails, this has reduced our client communication time by 60%.
